LCC wins 6th CIF Championship!

Posted by La Costa Canyon Mavericks at Jul 9, 2014 3:26PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

EL CAJON — The La Costa Canyon boys lacrosse program has been so good for so long that anything short of hoisting a championship trophy is a failure.

Consider the Mavericks’ season a success.

LCC cemented its spot as the most dominant team in San Diego Section history on Saturday with a 6-5 win over Cathedral Catholic in the Open Division final at Granite Hills High.

It was the 12th time the Mavericks (16-6) played for the title and the sixth time they’ve won it, giving them one more than rival Torrey Pines.

“We’ve been in 12 out of 13 championships and won six,” LCC coach Jesse Foss said. “It’s nice to get one above our rival.”

The win also helped LCC erase the bad taste in its mouth from losing to Torrey Pines in the final last year.

“I came to this school to win championships,” said senior Cameron Ziegler, who helped the Mavericks win a title his sophomore year and scored a goal to help them win on Saturday. “It means so much to me to win a championship my senior year.”
