La Costa Canyon (14-1) used a 6 goal first quarter run against league opponent Fallbrook (2-9) to win by a final of 14-2. The game saw 7 different scorers find the net and 10 of the 14 goals were assisted. The mavericks were dominant in every aspect of the game. They held a 44-19 advantage in ground balls, won 11 of 18 face offs, and held a 28-7 advantage in shots on goal. Caleb Young was perfect at the face off X winning all 5 of his face offs. He also scored 2 goals on 3 shots and collected 2 ground balls for the evening. The attack played excellent all game. They settled the ball on offense, dodged hard with their heads up, and rode hard against Fallbrook’s clear. Nick Vreeburg had a game and career high with 5 points (4 goals, 1 assist), Johnny Gavin had 4 points (2 goals, 2 assists), and Ben Keen had 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist). The defense was led by senior goalie, Kyle Svendsen, who made 5 saves in the win. Kevin Lyle played great defense and was instrumental in LCC’s perfect clearing on the night. The game was hard fought and our boys played consistently the whole game. LCC will be home this Friday at 7pm to face Rancho Bernardo. Go Mavs!
