The Mavericks (14-1) were back in action on Friday night against Division 1 opponent Rancho Bernardo (11-5). It was a back and forth battle with the game seeing multiple ties and lead changes. Rancho Bernardo struck first on man up after an unfortunate penalty in the first few seconds of the game. In the third quarter, the Mavericks were able to gain a 6-5 lead after a 3 goal run. The 4th quarter saw some exciting action with LCC pulling ahead for a 10-7 lead. Rancho Bernardo would not go away and fought back with 2 goals late in the game to make it a 10-9 final. The game saw 6 different scorers find the back of the net. The offense was led by the attack group of Brendan Gaughan (3 goals), Cameron Zeigler (2goals), and Ben Keen who had a career and game high of 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists). Tom Riis was back in usual form going 12 of 22 on face offs, collecting a game high 7 ground balls, and chipping in an assist.
