LCC rolls past San Marcos
The Mavericks (17-3) continued their hot streak on Saturday beating San Marcos (11-5) by a score of 16-0 in the first round of the CIF Playoffs. The 16 goals were the most goals scored by LCC this year. The Mavericks continued to find their offensive rhythm as they have scored in double digits in each of their 3 games. Bryan Cooper was fantastic in the first 3 quarters and Adam Nye made a beautiful kick save in the fourth quarter to preserve the shut out. 10 different scorers found the net with Brent Melbye (3 goals) and Ben Keen (4 goals) topping the scoring sheet. Michael Rice had his best game as a Maverick posting 4 points on a goal and 3 assists. San Marcos, who won the Valley league, was never able to get going due to solid team defense and the transition play of the Mavericks. With the win, LCC advances to the CIF Semifinal on Wednesday, May 22nd. The #2 Mavericks will take on #3 Cathedral Catholic at LCC at 7pm. The game is a rematch of an LCC win on March 15th. In that game the Mavericks scored 3 unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to win 7-5. I hope everyone can come out and show their support. Go Mavs!
