La Costa Canyon Mavericks

The Mavericks (1-0) started the 2014 season with a solid win over Open Division opponent, Rancho Bernardo (3-1)with a final score of 13-6. The first quarter began with the Mavericks dominating the stat sheet out-shooting their opponent 15-0 but the RB goalie made some nice saves and we only carried a 2-0 lead after one quarter. In the second quarter the Mavericks found their rhythm and scored 4 goals on 7 shots to take a 6-1 lead into halftime. LCC started the third quarter in similar fashion scoring 5 goals on 12 shots to hold onto a 11-3 lead. In the fourth quarter the Broncos mounted a small comeback because of some untimely penalties by the Mavericks. The game saw 7 different Mavericks find the net including Jack Kagan and Elliott Freer, who scored the first Varsity goals. Cameron Zielger led the team with 9 points (5 goals and 4 assists)for a career high. Brandon Steidley went 6 of 9 at the face off X to along with 4 ground balls. Patrick Dahl made 7 saves in his first career start. The Mavericks are back in action this Wednesday, March 19th at Westview HS at 730pm.
